Here I would look beyond such concepts of
collaboration and inclusion that the of fice should
nurture to secure long-term performance from
workplace communities: I will go so far as to talk
about brotherhood. A specif ic brand of solidarity
between those who hold the same values and
commit to the same f ights, brotherhood is the work
of shared experience which then works all on its own,
transcending egos to direct collective ef forts towards
achieving something together. As such, the goal in
this instance is not so much individual performance
as collective success. Brotherhood is only possible
when people share the same space-time, making
areas of interaction all the more important: kitchens,
restaurants, buf fer zones feel desirable again after
our experience of social distancing.
