TECHNIQUE
Created by the French interior architect and designer Louis Denavaut, the Onigiri sofa is a real invitation to travel, to relax. Inspired by the eponymous Japanese rice-based pastries that are eaten with greed, the Onigiri sofa proudly displays its rounded shapes. It is composed of two modules; an oak wood base on which rests a comfortable and welcoming cushion structure.
The wooden base is adaptable and can, in certain configurations, be used as a side table. With its rounded lines, its generous volume and its aesthetic character, the Onigiri sofa is the perfect combination of classicism and a touch of fantasy.
1 – Structure
An exposed solid oak platform with rounded and smoothed edges forms the base of Onigiri.
It rests flush with the ground, on three oak veneered legs that support it throughout its depth for greater stability and authenticity. A metal plate in the centre of this structure fixes and groups all the elements that make up Onigiri.
2 – Seat
The seat structure is made of hollowed out multi-ply wooden boxes. Elastic fabric straps
straps attached above the wooden frame hold a polyurethane bultex foam, making the seat up to 250 mm thick.
3 – Backrest
The backrest is made up of hollowed-out multi-ply wooden boxes that extend to form the armrests. Foam covers each element separately, 75 mm thick for each side of the backrest. The modules are attached to each other by invisible mechanical fasteners for easy disassembly.
4 – Upholstery
The seat and backrest are fully upholstered in fabric or leather, and may be colour coordinated. Visible double stitching adds to the character of the chair.
Onigiri is a centrepiece, fitting elegantly into tertiary and contract interiors.
